Yesterday, we went to Auburn for the day to celebrate Anna's birthday and tailgate. Jon's mom's cousin, Bill, brings his huge barbecue trailer and cooks out for everyone. They had so many goodies, but the best of all (besides the strawberries soaked in vodka) was corn bread with black eyed peas and other goodness baked in.
Did y'all know about this?! Have you had that before?!
I am going to assume no, because I feel like if you (I'm talking you, Mom) knew about this, it would be because of Grammi, and I know she would not have deprived me of something so delicious.
Today I felt like being domestic and wearing an apron, so I decided to try it.
I'm no cornbread guru, but I do know you should start with Jiffy. According to Eat This, Not That, Jiffy is the absolute worst cornbread mix out there. Worst for you, that is. I don't care; I love it and it cost like 30 cents or something crazy like that! I mean it says "America's Favorite" on the box.
So anyway, I mixed the batter and poured half of it in the cute little loaf pan.
Then I heated up some black eyed peas and dumped them in!
Then I poured in the rest of the batter.
It looked good when it came out....
But it didn't taste that great! I guess it should have been in a more shallow pan. I don't really know; maybe it needed more peas. What should I have done?
I'm seriously asking by the way.
I have more success with my red velvet cake!
Pardon the awful pics. I didn't have my camera. I used Jon's iPhone and apparently none of the geniuses over at apple knew how to put a flash on the iPhone camera until recently.
While we're here, these are the curtains I made for the kitchen.
